They say age is just a number and that is no truer than in sports. These players have been successful, and healthy, enough to enjoy their sport well into the twilight of their careers. Let’s take a look at who are the oldest active players in each sport.
Pitcher, New York Mets
DOB: May 24, 1973
Bartolo Colon is probably the most colorful athlete(and I use that term lightly) on this list. Colon is almost as well known for his antics and poor plate appearances as he his for his success.
Regardless of his playfulness, Colon is no slouch on the mound. The big righty was 14-13 in 2015 with a 4.16 ERA. He may no longer be the dominant force he was when he was in his 20s but make no mistake, Colon is still effective.
Kicker, Indianapolis Colts
DOB: Decemeber 28, 1972 (43)
Adam Vinatieri still has it at 43 years old. The 4 time Super Bowl Champion was 25 for 27 last season during a down year for the Indianapolis Colts. Vinatieri has already announced that he will return in 2016 for his 21st NFL season.
Point Guard, Minnesota Timberwolves
DOB: March 19, 1976(39)
The youngest player on this list, Andre Miller, has been around the block in his 16 NBA seasons. Miller has played for 9 different organizations in his career. The 39 year old has not seen much time this year, averaging 10.8 minutes so far this season in 26 games.
Right Wing, Florida Panthers
DOB: February 15, 1972(44)
The elder statesmen on this list, Jaromir Jagr is an ageless wonder. At age 44, Jagr shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. The Czech has 17 goals just over mid-way through the 2016 NHL season while also adding 23 assists to the mix. Jagr has said before that he is only looking to play two more seasons but, if he continues to stay healthy and produce, who knows how long he can play.
